En omdat de Jugendstil dun is gezaaid in Denemarken, ben je al gauw gelukkig met iets wat er op lijkt:
1.    In Skanderborg wat mooie muurtooi op een Arts&Crafts vormgegeven TEKNISK SKOLE.
2.    En een antroposofisch bouwwerk dat duidelijk maakt hoe schatplichtig die bouwstijl aan de Art Nouveau is….

There's less Art Nouveau in Denmark, so something that resembles can make you already happy.

It is hard to find any Art Nouveau/Jugendstil in Denmark.
There are several reasons for it.
- During the time of the industrial revolution Denmark was still a rural country and stepped late on that train. So its posperity had not the same level as in the other West European countries where many houses were built then.
- There was not such a good relation with neighbour Germany. And much of the Jugendstil architecture was very 'German'. The Jugendstil arcitecture that is to find in nowadays Denmark is mainly in Jutland, around 1900 occupied by the Germans.
- Apart from this, Copenhagen has some interesting buildings in a mix of Arts&Crafts, Art Nouveau and its so called National Romantism a reference to a period of Denmarks history that was considered als a Golden Age. The Vikings and their Drakars. So there are some dragons to find there…!

Er is nauwelijks Art Nouveau in Denemarken te vinden en er zijn daar verschillende redenen voor:
-    Rond 1900 was er sprake van een betrekkelijke armoede in Denemarken, dat tot dan toe nog niet met de ontwikkeling van de industriële revolutie was meegegaan. En hoewel men zich wel degelijk bezighield met kunstnijverheid in de Jugendstil/Art Nouveaustijl, ging dat om die reden minder op voor de architectuur.

-    Een andere reden die wordt genoemd, was dat men met de enige buur waar men een grens mee deelde Duitsland, niet echt een gezellige verhouding had. Jugendstil werd als 'Duits' ervaren dus liep men er niet zo mee weg.
-    Die grens ging bovendien nogal eens heen en weer en dat verklaart dan waarom in Zuid Jutland (dat rond 1900 Duits gebied was) wel Jugendstil te vinden is (Zie link boven: Skaerbaek, Varde en zie hier ook Sønderborg).
-    In Kopenhagen is er meer sprake van de “Skønvirke” stijl, die meer 'Deens' was. En nu wordt het even ingewikkeld, want eigenlijk was dat toch een mix van Jugendstil (Dld), Art Nouveau (Fr), Arts&Crafts (Gr.Br.) en het zgn. Nationaal Romantisme dat teruggreep op historische stijlen, zoals de 'Gouden Eeuw'.
